FTC Team Space

Thinking out of the box in an 18″ box

Anne-Wil

Engineer

joined in 2018

Hello, I’m Anne-Wil, I’m 18 years old, and one of the newest member of Team Space. I like to think of solutions and then test them out, that is why I am part of this seasons Team Space as an Engineer.

Bart

Engineer - Socials

joined in 2015

Hey I'm Bart, I'm 18 years old. I'm a member of FTC Team space since 9th grade. I'm currently in my last year of Havo. The past years I mainly focused on PR- tasks, but this year i'm going to be part of engineering. I'm really looking forward to this season and I'm hoping to learn a bunch of new things.
I participate in FTC because I did FLL in 7th and 8th grade. I wanted to go on so I naturally ended up at FTC.

Bas

Project manager - Driver

joined in 2015

I'm Bas and I'm 17 years old. My task in the team is project manager. I make sure everything goes according to plan and everything that needs to happen really happens. I also keep track of the agenda and help where I'm needed. I like FTC because I think robots are very interesting, but I also like that you learn a lot more than just building robots. I'm also one of the drivers, together with Ben.

Ben

Engineer - Driver

joined in 2015

Ben, I'm 17 years old. I am now in my 6th year of vwo at the Newmancollege. My hobbies are baseball, gaming and of course FTC. I find this very interesting because you have to be creative and because you can apply many things in real life. This year I am one of the drivers, together with Bas.

Björn

Engineer

joined in 2015

Hi! I'm Björn. I'm one the team's Engineers, my main task is supporting others and designing and testing basic mechanisms. I'm also the one that tries to keep the pit and workshop organised. That way other can keep going on with their tasks. On rare occasions they yell my name when something needs to be measured or drawn, although my drawing skills aren't the best.

Casper

Engineer - CAD Designer

joined in 2015

Yes, I'm Casper, 17 years old. Since the beginning of this team I am part of it and take part in FTC with much enthusiasm. All of my skills are found at the technological side of FTC, that's why my job in the team is engineering. During the earlier years of FTC I learned to CAD-design to assist the team with 3D-models. Besides that I help the programmer with difficult math problems. This year I fancy the challenge just like all the earlier years.

Dylan

Programmer

joined in 2017

Hello, my name is Dylan. I am 15 years old, and this is my second year doing FTC.
This year I moved more towards the programming side of the competition, because I want to help building the final robot.
I am also taking care of the humor in the team.

Kyra

Engineer

joined in 2018

Hi, I'm Kyra and I'm 17 years old. I'm one of the new members of Team Space. I like to draw and figure out how things work.
This season I'll take part in the team as one of the Engineers.

Nigel

Software Engineer - Driver Coach

joined in 2015

Hey, I'm Nigel, I'm 18 years old and I'm the head software engineer of Team Space. I've been programming games, software and apps since I was 9 years old. My job is to make sure the robot can be controlled smoothly, it can drive autonomously and keeping the website working and up-to-date.

I was also the coach of a FIRST Lego League team and I make the video's for our YouTube channel.

Reinier

Engineer

joined in 2017

Hello, my name is Reinier. I’m 15 years old. This is my second year in this team. Within the team I’m an engineer. Working with robots and different technologies is very interesting to me. I like FTC because you collaborate on very diverse problems and you’re able to reach wonderful goals. With this team, we can do this without a doubt.

Simone

Engineer

joined in 2018

Hey, I'm Simone and I'm 17 years old.
I've always been interested in how things work and I like to build stuff. I became one of engineers of Team Space in 2018.

Coaches

Mariëlle

Hey! I am Mariëlle and I am coach of FTC team SPACE. Besides guiding the process of the team and the traveling abroad, I am Technator and Research & Design teacher at the Newmancollege.

Ronald

Hi, I’m Ronald, father of Casper and mentor of the three teams of the Newmancollge. When asked by the primary coach to join team S.P.A.CE. as coach, I didn’t have to think long. During my childhood, I played long hours with Lego and later on with the more technical Fischertechnik. The possibilities of Lego Technic I discovered after the birth of my son and daughter. The next step, Lego Mindstorms with the programming functions, I saw from a distance. How quick those options became standard features and how easily and quickly the youth adapts such technology still amazes me every day. So, when I have the opportunity to positively influence the youth towards technology I will say yes. Each year the Dutch Open with its international character is a stunning experience. Given the opportunity to support the youth of our team S.P.A.C.E. during their St. Louis Championship battles was a great experience for all of us. Last year’s Invitational at Aviano (Italy) we were proud winner of the InspireAward. This year’s DutchOpen (season 2017-2018) again a place in the finals means we are ready for our next goal, Detroit, April 2019.

Stefan

Hi, I'm Stefan and I'm one of the Team Space coaches. My most important role is to challenge the members of Team Space to think differently and to be continually busy with improving the robot and pursuing goals why FTC originated.

In every phase of the construction of the robot, there is another way of coaching. We initially start experimenting and work out different options, then making choices, thereby creating a first version. During testing and the competitions it is important to keep observing and improving, something that works a few times just fine can behave in a competition quite differently.

The best thing we can do with FTC is to learn the boys and girls to cooperate, socialize, gain knowledge and above all have fun. My first full year 2017-2018 we had a very nice year with Team Space, had a lot of fun and learned a bit too. The year 2018-2019 is for the majority the last year in high school. Hopefully we can have another great year and make the difference within FTC!

My motto: What is good, can always be better!

Hi! i am Olav, this was my first and my last year in Team S.P.A.C.E. This has been a great experiance what i will never forget. With great building sessions and off course the matches in Aviano. Unfortunately i have to go to my HBO Study Automotive. I had a really fun year and you will see me around the FTC matches!

Ray

Engineer

member from 2015 to 2018

I am Ray and I'm 18 years old. I finished my Havo at the Newmancollege and I'm currently studying Automotive Engineering at Fontys. My time in Space was extremely fun and I learned a lot. Working together in a group is very important and it's interesting to see that it's the same at my school. I used to be mainly focussed on the robot. Mostly doing CAD-design and 3D printing. The journeys we made are amazing memories and I would definitely recommend checking out FTC some time.

Thomas

Engineer

member from 2017 to 2018

Hey, I’m Thomas and last year I was part of Team Space. I really enjoyed it and learned a lot. I was an engineer and even though I was able to follow everything, I decided to quit Team Space and continue my FTC career at GenleBotz. The reason I made this decision is actually quite simple. I prefer working on a robot without a tight schedule and that’s just not going to cut it at Space. This, however, is simply not the case at GentleBotz. Space was a nice team and was definitely worth it.
